Basketball on my satellite TV
♫ Tuesday, June 29th, 2010As spring arrives, there are a plethora of sporting events to watch on TV. Basektball is finishing, golf is starting, horse racing is on and the World Cup is finally here. My favorite sport to watch on the television is the tournament going on in South Africa. Since I can check it out on Direct TV, it is truly a site to behold.
The glory of watching 32 teams represent their country, with the underdogs playing over their heads in pursuit of the most famous prize in world team sports — the World Cup. This game of football on the highest level is like watching a chess match between 2 highly ranked opponents. The battle to stay onside, the great saves by the goalies and a corner kick into that mass of humanity can bring a fan to his feet.
There is nothing quite like the spectacle of seeing the star players and their supporting cast take the field. The fans go crazy, singing songs and waving flags to support their team. Face paint is everywhere as exuberant supporters have their countries colors adoring their bodies. Jerseys abound with favorite players being seen by the number on the back of the spectators.
What could be finer than taking in this grand event? Thank goodness for this medium which is able to cover the entire tournament.
